Dhammayatra, meaning “pilgrimage of Dhamma,” is a peaceful walking practice rooted in this tradition. It offers monks and lay practitioners an opportunity to cultivate mindfulness, patience, and inner stillness while moving through the world in harmony.
The purpose of the Dhammayatra is to:
Develop spiritual growth through simplicity and letting go
Raise awareness of peace and Dhamma in the community
Deepen mindfulness through silent, step-by-step walking meditation
Live in dependence on the generosity of others (pindapata)
The walking is done silently, at a steady, mindful pace—one step, one breath at a time. The simplicity of this practice fosters deeper reflection, humility, and connection with nature and all beings.
